Gifs are cool again! The design community has gone mad for animations and in part Gifs are responsible for this. Basically, if you’re not designing something that you can’t turn into a gif then you may as well go home. With this in mind, I’ve put together a list of some truly inspirational Gifs from the wide design community.
Mind = Blown! This is one of my favourite animations around, the devil is in the details – watch how everything contracts just before it all loops again.
Put all of the design trends into one Gif and win – Flat, long shadow Gif! There’s no flash on the front of an iPhone though…
This looks really simple but there’s a hell of a lot going on here. All the little animations – the cameras, the arms swinging, the ball all make a great impact.
Really original piece. Super smooth animations make this really work. I’d love to see this come to being.

Super simple but really effective animation
The movement of the water droplet is super realistic on this, it really makes all the difference. The fact that everyone loves a looping Gif also helps.
Simple but really effective. A great piece from the Mailchimp team
I love the combination of animations in this. There are so many tiny and detailed bits that make the piece feel fuller and more satisfying.
Since Apple have made some pretty cool/pointless animations for iOS7 loads of UI animations have come out of the woodworks.
Most of these animations have been made in Adobe after effects and converted into gifs using photoshop.
You can convert a film file into a Gif by opening up photoshop and selecting File>Import>Video Frames to Layers.
All you have to do after that is save it out as a Gif! Easy!
