Just one day in and everyone is gripped with World Cup fever – here at Harkable we’re no different. To celebrate we’ve built a World Cup hashtag tracker app – over the duration of each match we’ll be tracking tweets with the #hashflag of each team to see who’s fans are the loudest.

From the first whistle to the end of the game we’ll calculate the percentage of tweets for each team to see who’s winning on Twitter – even if they’re not doing so well on the pitch.  We use the Twitter API to identify a global sample dataset for each hashflag over the duration of every World Cup game. This gives us an accurate depiction of the global noise on Twitter for each team.

Last night saw Brazil beat Croatia 3 – 1 and Brazil fans were just as victorious online with 70% of all #hashflag mentions.

Tweet your team to victory – simply tweet during their game with their hashflag – the first 3 letters of their name. Don’t forget you can embed our tracker too – each match result can be found on the site here.
