Facebook Gives Teens Free WiFi

Whether a bid to actually do good or just another ploy to make sure their key demographic keeps using the site, Facebook have provided 6000 teens in North Carolina free WiFi for their laptops (which were also provided by Facebook). A year ago the social network co launched Internet.org with the view to making online access affordable for everyone in the world – one of the data centres for which is based in North Carolina – and altruistic or not, marks the first step in making sure everyone remains connected. And indebted to Facebook.

 

Twitter Introduces All New Analytics Dashboard

Twitter updated Tweet activity dashboard, sharing richer data to give users more detailed insights into how Tweets are performing. Instead of measuring simply how many retweets and favourites a twee has received this new toolset identifies which tweets are performing the best in real time and shows how you are reaching you audience. Even more exciting is the fact that data for up to 3,200 tweets can be downloaded to include a breakdown of reach and engagement. 

AirBNB’s New Logo Hits A Bum Note

The butt of many jokes this week, AirBNB’s new logo quickly went viral for all the wrong reasons. Twitter couldn’t decide which part of the lower torso it actually resembled but there were further complications when it was revealed to look uncannily like Automation Anywhere’s existing logo.

 

LinkedIn Acquires Newsle

LinkedIn has acquired Newsle, a news aggregator founded three years ago. Users will be able to learn more about contacts helping to find blogs and articles that mention you or anyone of interest – LinkedIn thinks this will make you more productive and it could prove a great addition for the networking site.

 

David Mitchell Releases His New Book Via Twitter

Best selling author David Mitchell has released his latest short story – via 280 tweets. Over seven days ‘The Right Sort’ will be told over 20 tweets a day – so there’s no reason not to keep up to speed with this summer’s must read. Follow the account @david_mitchell to read!

 

Shakira Reaches 100 Million Fans On Facebook

Musicians are often the users with the biggest social followings – but very few come close to Shakira’s latest milestone. On Friday her Facbook page reached 100 million likes with Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg just one of many to offer their congratulations. Her page features the mandatory balance of new releases and Shakira signature perfumes but more importantly a personal element – pictures of her baby for example. Lower quality of course family pics have no design value in them, but these intimate moments may have just helped her become the most followed Facebook user of all time.
